Student Book Reviews

**I will be adding to this post regularly!**

On Campus there has been a surge to encourage student and staff book reviews! 3rd grade teacher Mr. Curran created an awesome template that various teachers have made copies of for their students. I have made copies and have them available to students during library time and throughout the day. I recently put up a display in the hallway leading to the library to post student and staff book reviews.

Read below for fun reviews!

NEW REVIEW

Lunch Money by Andrew Clements

Reviewer: Ethan (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

I highly recommend this book for reading because it teaches you about the ways of money but at the same time you are reading not listening to your parents talk about the bank boringly. The main character's name is Greg and he loves money. So if you are interested in reading about money, read Lunch Money.

Whales and Dolphins by DK Eye Wonder

Reviewer: Lannaiah (4th grade)

5/5 Stars

Killer Whales can eat seals also that whales use their tails sometimes for swimming and that when they use their tails they sometimes use it for communicating with other whales and that is all I know.

The Million Dollar Shot by Dan Gutman

Reviewer: Adamariz (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

This book is about a boy named Eddie and he entered a poem contest so he can win a million dollars just by making a shot in a NBA game. I recommend you should read it especially if you like basketball. Read the book to find out more.

Lucky Ducklings by Eva Moore

Reviewer: Jadelyn (3rd grade)

4/5 Stars

The book is good but in the middle it's scary.

Alvin Ho by Lenore Look

Reviewer: Adamariz (5th grade)

4.5/5 Stars

This book was about a kid named Alvin Ho and he is scared of a lot of stuff. For example girls, school and other scary stuff, but the thing I like about this is that I have a connection and that is that I was also shy when I was little like Alvin Ho.

Pax by Sara Pennypacker

Reviewer: Zyra (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

This book is about a boy named Peter and a fox named Pax. At the beginning , Peter was forced to bring Pax out into the wild. Then, his father goes out to be with the army. And Peter goes to his Grandfather. Soon, Peter makes a escape to find Pax. Meanwhile, Pax finds friends named Bristle and Runt. Peter trips and breaks his leg (or ankle) and a woman named Vola told him to stay with her until it heals. On the other hand, Pax settles in with the pack Bristle and Runt are in and later in the story, Runt loses his leg once Peter was free. Peter finds a leg and his father and thinks he killed Pax.

But in the end, they reunite........

Dork Diaries: Tale from a not so Talented Pop Star by Rachel Renee Russell

Reviewer: Kalie (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

I strongly recommend this title because it is like realistic fiction. The stuff that you might need to know later on in your life when you are in middle school. Read to find out more.

Help! I'm Trapped in the First Day of Summer Camp by Todd Strasser

Reviewer: Jared (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

In this book a kid named Jake is stuck in the first day of camp. I was interested to find out what he will do to get to the first day to the second.

The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan

Reviewer: Astrid (3rd grade)

5/5 Stars

Percy, Thailia, and Annabeth are on an urgent mission from Grover who has found two powerful half-bloods. . . but the titan Atlas has escaped from his punishment.

Matilda by Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Kayla (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

This book is about a girl named Matilda. Her parents sell used cars for unfair prices. Matilda gets these powers because the work at school is easy. But as the work gets harder, she loses her powers. There is one thing in her way (other than her parents). Her principal: Miss Trunchbull. Matilda also has this wonderful nice teacher: Miss Honey. Will Matilda and Miss Honey stop the principal or will Miss. Trunchbull be the bully of the school?

I recommend this book because this book is an easy read because you won't want to stop reading it.

The BFG by Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Kayla (5th grade)

4.5/5 Stars

This book is about a girl named Sophie meeting a giant named BFG/ Big Friendly Giant. BFG takes Sophie because he didn't want her to tell anyone. They become friends, but there are 9 things in their way. 9 disgusting giants. They are bigger than the BFG and they eat humans. Will Sophie and the BFG stop them or will the giants eat humans forever?

I recommend this book because even though it's fiction, a friendship like this could happen.

Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater

Reviewer: Rhea (4th grade)

5/5 Stars

This is a very funny book and very exciting and you'll never want to stop reading it! I recommend it to people who like animals and comedy!

Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Kayla (5th grade)

5/5 Stars

I recommend this book because it sends a wonderful message: don't hurt animals.

This book is about a family of foxes: Mr. Fox, Mrs. Fox, and their four foxes. Every night Mr. Fox goes out and steals from either Farmer Boggis, Farmer Bunce, or Farmer Bean. These farmers are very mean and only want things for themselves. So they try to hunt Mr. Fox down.

Will Mr. Fox and his family escape the farmers or be hung on one of the farmer's walls?

The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Kayla (5th grade)

4.5/5 Stars

This book is about a girl who makes magic happen with her pointer finger when she is angry. For example, her teacher, Mrs. Winter said, "You are a stupid girl!" She said this because she spelled cat like this: K-A-T. The girl then got so angry her magic finger gave Mrs. Winter whiskers.

What also happens is that she gets angry because her friend kills ducks with their father. What will happen to this family you ask? Well, you will have to read this book to find out.
